Trial recycling scheme for local businesses
Businesses in Herts and Beds can sign up to a free sixth-month commercial trial to help reduce their costs and cut landfill
In a bid to make businesses and council commitments greener, companies in Hitchin, Letchworth and Baldock are being invited to sign up to a free recycling trial.
All of the North Herts District Council’s new and old commercial waste customers can sign up for the six-month trial to have their waste paper, glass, cans, cardboard and shrink wrap collected for free.
If the trial turns out to be a success, it could become the norm with the aim of cutting waste collection costs as well as the volume of rubbish pumped into landfill.
Waste, recycling and environment councillor, Peter Burt, said: “The Council already has an excellent level of recycling in the district but we intend to increase this in every way we can. We send about 3,000 tonnes of waste from businesses to landfill each year and much of this could be recycled.
“Doing so could help save businesses money whilst helping the environment which is a priority for the Council. Cutting the amount of waste sent to landfill helps the environment by reducing harmful climate-changing gases.”
