Call for Sandy residents to get into carnival spirit

Talented residents in the area are being encouraged to start preparing their routines for the Sandy carnival 2012.

The annual week-long event taking place between June 16 to 24, is following the theme of celebrations this year and will feature all the usual favourites.

Starting on the Saturday with the popular town float procession, residents will be able to browse and shop around more stalls than ever before, while enjoying the customary multitude of fairground attractions.

Numerous competitions will take place throughout the week, including skate, BMX riding and scooter events at the Sunderland Road recreation ground, a Sandy’s Got Talent Competition and a battle of the bands.

A scooter school for younger children will also run on Monday, June 18, and on Sunday, June 24, a special Engagement Day with  a range of physical activities for children is being put on in collaboration with members of RAF Henlow.

"Though it is early days. I am hoping that people will start thinking about things they could do to be a part of the carnival and sign up for some of the competitions and the talent contest," co-organiser Cllr Ken Lynch explained.

"We want to see people of all ages and abilities from around the area getting involved and also want to hear from anyone interested in judging some of the contests.

"The Sandy carnival is always a brilliant week that really brings everyone together and we hope that this year will be no different.”
