Flood warnings changed by Environment Agency

By Martin Ford

THE Environment Agency (EA) is ringing in the changes to improve its flood warnings.

The EA is tasked with issuing warnings when there is a chance that properties could be flooded.

This week it is changing the boundaries of its flood warning areas to make them smaller and more numerous – meaning future warnings will be more relevant and specific.

The rivers affected in Hertfordshire include the Rivers Mimram, Beane, Rib and Ash.

This means ‘Floodline Quickdial’ numbers, which members of the public can use to access local river level information, have also changed.

Those registered for the free flood warning service should receive letters informing them of their new quickdial numbers this week.

Lee James, flood incident management team leader, said: "We have improved the way in which we issue flood warnings to provide a more targeted service to people living and working in Hertfordshire, Essex and London."
