NORTH East Herts MP Oliver Heald took part in the Westminster Mile for Sport Relief yesterday (Wednesday March 10).
Mr Heald joined approximately 40 MPs and England Rugby star Kyran Bracken at St James Park to raise awareness for the charity.
MPs and members of the House of Lords swapped their suits for T-shirts, shorts and trainers after Prime Minister's Questions to tackle the course in the shadows of the Houses of Parliament.
Commenting after completing the mile in 10 minutes 40 seconds, Mr Heald said: "I was aiming to get round in about 12 minutes without stopping and as it was I did in it in 10 minutes, 40 seconds and I really enjoyed it.
“It was good to be urged on by many school children and visitors to London as we ran up and down the Mall. I was glad to part of raising the profile for this important charity."
Politicians hope their fundraising venture will "inspire" others to attempt the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile, choosing a distance of one, three or six miles.
Thousands are expected to take part in activities around the country during the Sport Relief Weekend from Friday, March 19 to Sunday, March 21, with many celebrities due to help raise cash during an evening of televised entertainment on BBC One.
