A LONELY woman who asked local residents to ‘come dine with me’ has started her own social group which has taken Stevenage by storm.
Phyllis Ayres, 65, of Chells wanted to reach out to other members of the community who often feel alone by setting up a social group for anyone wanting some company.
Now the group has numerous members and is growing in the town.
Phyllis said: “I have family and friends but a lot of them are married and often busy, I found that Sunday is usually the loneliest day of the week and wondered if anyone else would be interested in meeting up for a chat or Sunday lunch .”
After Phyllis placed an advert into the local paper titled ‘Come Dine with Me’ named after the BBC hit TV show, she received five requests the meet up.
The social group met for there first meeting last week at the Cooper’s Inn pub, in Magpie Crescent where they all enjoyed Sunday lunch and a good chinwag.
Phyllis added: “We are meeting again next Sunday and one lady is a keen cinema goer but hasn’[t gone as she doesn’t have anyone to go with so we’ve decided to go to see the new Alice in Wonderland film with Johnny Depp.”
In addition, the group are meeting on Mothering Sunday and are welcoming anyone to join them.
