STEVENAGE Library is to close for eight weeks so that vital improvements can be made.
The work includes improved ground floor layout, the installation of an information point, new carpeting, redecoration of the ground floor and a new issues and returns system.
A drop-in session on Monday, March 22, will be held at the library for residents to find out more about the proposed works.
Executive member for community safety and culture, Keith Emsall said: “We're having the work carried out so that we can improve the facilities in the library as well as enhancing the surroundings for visitors.
“The addition of a Hertfordshire Local Inform-ation Point will also make information about the county council and its services more accessible.
“These improvements are essential in order for us to provide the best service we can to our users. We do appreciate that it is going to be inconvenient for local people in the short-term – but there will be back-up arrangements in place to make things easier while the work is going on.”
During the closure which will take place on May 3, a mobile library service will be parked near the library during the day.
There will also be extra hours of opening at Stevenage Old Town Library and Knebworth Library.
For more information contact the library service on 0300 123 4049.
