A Stevenage woman who was banned from singing, shouting or playing loud music in her home has been fined after breaching a noise abatement notice.
Melanie Conway, of Grace Way and formerly of Salisbury Road, had been served with the notice by Stevenage Council following a series of complaints from neighbours about disturbance caused by loud music, shouting and singing.
It required her not to play music, shout or sing at a level that could clearly be heard outside her property.
But further complaints were received and a decision to prosecute was taken after the Council’s Environmental Health Officers witnessed excessive noise on two separate occasions.
Cllr Richard Henry, the council’s executive member for safer and stronger communities, said: "Excessive loud noise can cause great distress to people and stop them from enjoying their own home.
"Prosecutions such as this show that we will not tolerate people who cause continual nuisance and disturbance to those living around them.
"We will not hesitate to take action, and would encourage anyone suffering from persistently noisy neighbours to contact us for advice and assistance."
Ms Conway was fined a total of £100 for two separate offences and ordered to pay costs of £250 to the council and a £15 victim surcharge.
Anyone who has a problem with noise nuisance can contact the council’s environmental health unit on (01438) 242908.
