YOUNG people around North Herts took part in a Streetball tournament throughout the summer holidays.
The games were played at recreation grounds in Knebworth; Norton Common, Letchworth; The Avenue, Baldock, Ransom Rec, Hitchin and King George’s Playing Field, Hitchin, with the Grand Final held at The Arena in Letchworth on Friday (August 27).
The final was won by a group of lads from Royston, who were awarded medals for their participation. Streetball is a form of street basketball where players challenge each other in pairs.
During the final, coaches from the MBA, Mentoring Basketball Academy, which is based in Stevenage, staged an exhibition match and played the tournament winners.
Summer Streetball has been organised and funded by Hitchin Town Football Club, North Herts Safer Neighbourhood Teams, North Hertfordshire Homes and Child UK.
North Herts Youth Crime Reduction Officer Lee Jessup said: “Everyone who came along to one of these events said they really enjoyed themselves - so much so that we hope to continue running this type of event in the future.

"Thanks to everyone who came along to play or spectate – and to all the agencies who helped organise or fund the matches, including of course the coaches who came along from the MBA. They really helped make the event a success.”
