National Apprentice Week: Get involved!

National Apprentice Week kicks off on Monday (February 6) and there’s a whole host of events going on in Hertfordshire and Essex. Here’s our pick of the ones not to be missed.

Employer drop in

Ridgemond Training Centre, Stevenage

Thursday February 9, 10-3pm

This event is the perfect opportunity for employers to drop in and meet the tutors and teaching staff at the Ridgemond Training Centre. You will be able to ask questions and get information about the curriculum and apprenticeship frameworks. There will also be a site tour to see all the training facilities and free refreshments available throughout the day.

Apprenticeship Awareness Evening

Hertford Regional College, Broxbourne Campus

Thursday February 9, 4-8pm

Whether you’re a budding apprentice or a potential employer, this evening will give you the opportunity to discover the many benefits an apprenticeship can bring. The apprenticeship team will be on hand to answer questions, offer advice and guidance and there will be presentations from national apprenticeship services as well as Barry Connolly from Johnson Matthey.

The evening will also see the launch of the new British Institute of Innkeeping (BIIAB) licensing apprenticeship of which HRC is the first training provider to offer. The BII will be presenting at 4pm for anyone interested.

‘Have a go’ events

Harlow College

Tuesday 7, Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 February

Try your hand at everything from plumbing to hairdressing at the Harlow College ‘have a go’ events. The events will allow young people to have hands on experience in a subject area of their choice and each session will run a competition for the winners. Apprenticeship Fair

University Centre, Harlow College Campus

Monday February 6, 4-7pm

This event is the perfect opportunity to discover why an apprenticeship could be the right choice for you. With a live vacancy board and job search workshop, you will leave with tonnes of potential job opportunities and get a chance to see apprentices demonstrate their skills and showcase work.  The Harlow College guidance team and national apprentice services will also be on hand to answer your questions.

Enjoy a cup of tea and a croissant while finding out how an apprentice will benefit your business. Harlow College are inviting businesses who have never had an apprentice and want to know more about it to attend a breakfast forum. SPADS To mark the return of SPADS (Song, Pantomime and Drama Society) to St. Francis' College theatre for their annual pantomime show, the group presented the college with a contribution towards the cost of the new auditorium seating.
