STEVENAGE Borough will play in the Football League for the first time next season after clinching promotion and the league title with a 2-0 victory against Kidderminster at Aggborough.

Boro arrived at Kidderminster knowing victory would make sure of the Blue Square Premier title and promotion and they sealed both, 14 years after winning the Vauxhall Conference and suffering the heartbreak of being denied League football as Broadhall Way did not meet ground regulation standards.

Charlie Griffin put them into the lead early on and Joel Byrom scored the second goal.

It was a stunning start for Boro', as Jasbir Singh picked up a back pass, which led to Stevenage being given an indirect free kick in the area. Andy Drury passed it straight to Griffin, who netted quickly, but the referee was not happy with the speedy start and called it back. Boro' tried again with the same two players and Griffin netted again for a dream start.

It was all Boro' in the first half, with Byrom seeing an effort well saved by Singh and Chris Beardsley smacking his effort against the post from the save. Ronnie Henry also saw his cross shot palmed over by Singh, while Drury came close on three occasions, dragging wide on all efforts.

Harriers came out with a little bit more purpose in the second half, but on 62 minutes, Byrom showed his skills once again as he cut inside and unleashed a cracking curling right-footed shot that beat Singh and sent Boro' fans into raptures.

Lawire Wilson tried to muscle in on the action with a late strike that curled just wide of the far top corner, but Boro' had sealed the title and life in the Football League.
