THE Rhythms of the World music festival in Hitchin is set to showcase budding musical talent as part of a competition to find the best young songwriters in Hertfordshire.
The Hertfordshire Songwriter 2012 competition offers precocious talent in the county the chance to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Songs submitted to the online chart will be listened to by professional songwriters and the songwriter workshop team from Hertfordshire County Council’s music service.
The young people could then be handed the chance to showcase their music at the Hertfordshire music service’s Royal Albert Hall gala in May.
There will also be showcase performances at the Rhythms in July and at various other events in the county.
Frances Button, cabinet member for education and skills, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for young musicians in the county to showcase their songwriting talents.
"Not only can they get their music heard by audiences across the county at the competition website, but they could get to perform their songs at one of the world’s most prestigious music venues."
