A WEALTH of talent has gone on display at Letchworth Arts Centre as sixth-formers from the Highfield and Fearnhill schools mount their annual A-level exhibition.
The exhibition, in the Main Gallery, is on until February 24 and is a great opportunity to pinpoint the artists of tomorrow among today's youngsters while appreciating the high level of ability, expertise and sheer hard work of students in the Garden City's two comprehensive schools.
Young talent is also the theme of the centre's Foyer Gallery in February, with participants in the Saturday Art Club showing what they can do.
The Café Gallery, meanwhile, features well-known local artist and teacher Nigel Markham, formerly a tutor at North Herts College, with an exhibition entitled Out of the Woods.
A graduate of the Royal Academy, Nigel has continuously exhibited, taught and studied art.
His relentless desire to observe and, visually, express his findings has produced a fascinating body of intriguing and honest work.
Uncompromising brushstrokes and ruthless mark making combine to create almost factual yet somehow abstracted landscape and genre pieces.
From rhythmic linocuts to luscious oils, Nigel manages to capture both the moment and a passage of his own history. His work has been exhibited at Kettles Yard, Cambridge, Edith Grove Gallery, Chelsea, and the Royal Academy.
